Neighbourly bond encouraged

Those living in urban areas should make an effort to get to know their neighbours better as it would help tackle social problems.

Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said urban folk should emulate their counterparts in the rural areas who live as a close-knit community and help watch out for each other.

The Prime Minister’s wife was speaking after the launch of the “Zuriat Kita” television programme on Astro channel Oasis at One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya.

A good deed: Persatuan Kebajikan Anak Pesakit HIV/AIDS Nurul Iman Malaysia (PERNIM) managing director Norlina Alawi (second from right) receiving a cheque from Rosmah. On the left is Mahamad.

She said good neighbourly ties would also help tackle problems like unwanted pregnancies and abandoned babies.

“In the villages, the people look out for each other and it is time urban dwellers do the same,” Rosmah said, adding that programmes like “Zuriat Kita” played an effective role in delivering positive messages to the people.

The programme, which will be shown over Astro from July 18, is a joint project by MFDM Holdings, the Selangor Justice of Peace Council and Karyawan Bestari.

MFDM Holdings executive chairman Datuk Seri Mahamad Fathil Mahmood, who is also the Selangor JP Council president, said they would reach out to more areas where youths were involved in social ills.

“We are in the midst of identifying urban areas in Selangor where youths are involved in unhealthy activities and will come up with suitable programmes for them, “said Mahamad Fathil.
